Adopt a Butterfly or Hummingbird Bed ~ These beds always need weeding, cutting dead flowers, fertilization and mulching. Help maintain and expand the teacher's garden by the portable classrooms. Help beautify this area. Adopt the Orchard ~ Help turn our orchard into a teaching garden. Assist with pruning, fertilizing and selecting new species. The Nature Area and Outdoor Classroom can use pruning, maintenance, weeding and planting. You can do the maintenance on any of these areas at your own pace and time! We can show you our plans and you can take it from there! Also, the Kinder "Garden" and First grade demonstration gardens depend on parent's assistance. If you have a child who will be "graduating" to one of these grades and would like to assist or take charge of these small gardens, please see or talk to Vivian Cardoso at 281-641-2886. And, several times per year we have parent/faculty workdays to maintain the green areas in our outdoor classrooms. Watch for announcements and please volunteer to help during these important days. None of the natural outdoor classrooms are maintained by HISD due to budget limitations. Therefore, in order to keep Oak Forest looking sharp, we do need your help! |
